About Us
I want to give everyone a little background story and how we originally got started with special needs pups. Bob and I have been married for 45 years. Bob worked for UPS for 31 years and I did home day care. We raised 2 amazing children that we are very proud of.
I had followed a rescue called The Mia Foundation on Facebook and 11 years ago they made a post about a cleft ShihTzu puppy that needed help in Tampa. We had just lost our 19 month old grandson, our only grandchild at the time. Matthew passed unexpectedly and I was very lost and depressed. I felt like I had no purpose in life. Back to the little ShihTzu in Tampa, she was a newborn cleft and couldn’t eat. Bob and I volunteered to pick her up. I rushed this tiny baby to my vet at the time and he told me she had a cleft palate and would not survive. He said she would suffer and I should have her euthanized. I left that vets office in tears and brought that little puppy home. I couldn’t give up on her. I took her to a new vets office and he told me she didn’t have a cleft palate. She had a cleft lip. At the time I didn’t know the difference. I went home and learned how to tube feed from YouTube videos. That little puppy thrived and we named her Marcy. Marcy was adopted by a friend of Sue Rogers that had also lost a grandchild at 19 months old. I feel like God had this plan for me and it was to continue saving cleft puppies. In 11 years I have learned a lot about clefts and am still learning. Most vets just suggest euthanasia because of lack of experience. We are here to educate, accept and mentor. If you know of a puppy that needs help please reach out and we will do our best to find help as close to you as possible. We network with many amazing cleft rescues all over the country.
I am Susan Winslow and my husband is Bob. Bob is very involved and you will hear a lot about him as time goes on. ❤️
